Troubadours provides many opportunities for students to learn stringed instruments. Our String Program has 3 levels for various abilities. We also have many levels of ukulele and guitar classes for kids and adults, too!
Class Descriptions

Strings 1 - Ages 9+ - Marissa Buelow, instructor
$125/semester
Fridays, 9:00-9:45 - B2 (Strings Room)
These classes, using the Essential Elements for Strings Books 1&2, offer students sound pedagogy and engaging music, all carefully paced to successfully start young players on their musical journey. Featuring both familiar songs and specially designed exercises, created and arranged for the classroom in a unison-learning environment, as well as instrument-specific exercises to focus each student on the unique characteristics of their own instrument, these classes give students with a wealth of material to develop total musicianship, even at the beginning and early stages.

Strings 2 - Ages 10+ (with one year of experience) - Marissa Buelow, instructor

Beginner Ukulele-Ages 8+ - Shanna Buettner, instructor
Book required: Essential Elements for Ukulele, Book 1

Students will learn basic chords and easy, beginner level songs for playing. Students will learn to read music and basic theory and rhythm. Beginner level is an opportunity for students to learn responsibility in instrument care, tuning and regular practice. Parents are welcome to sign up along with their students.
Intermediate Ukulele-Ages 10+ - Shanna Buettner, instructor
Book required: Essential Elements for Ukulele, Book 1

Students will learn basics along with more moderately difficult songs. Students should come into Intermediate Ukulele comfortable with using several different strums and the chords learned in Uke 1 or from prior experience(C, C7, F, G, G7, D, D7, Am). Students must have at least one year of ukulele to join Intermediate Ukulele. If you have questions about a student’s readiness for Intermediate Ukulele, please speak to Mrs. Buettner prior to registering. Parents are welcome to sign up along with their students.
Advanced Ukulele-Ages 13+ - Shanna Buettner, instructor

Students should come into Uke 3 feeling comfortable playing the intermediate strums and chords learned in Uke 2 (C, C7, D, D7, Dm, Em, F, G7, G, Am, G7, A7, Bb) and EXCITED to be learning MORE chords and MORE strums. Nobody knows what Mrs. Buettner might throw at you in Uke 3…but it’ll be funl!! Anyone under age 13 may be invited to join Advanced Ukulele. Please speak with Mrs. Buettner if you are interested in participating in the Advanced class.
Beginner Guitar-Ages 10+ - Shanna Buettner, instructor
Book required: Essential Elements for Guitar, Book 1

Students start with learning to tune their instrument, and then learn some basic strums and simple chords (G, C, D, Em) while working through Essential Elements of Guitar Book 1.
Intermediate Guitar-Ages 13+ - Shanna Buettner, instructor

Students move into Book 2. Intermediate Guitar continues on from the chords and strums learned in Guitar 1 (C (easy & full), D, D7, Em, Em7, G (easy & full), G7, A7, Am, F) and adds more chords and more strums. Students must have at least one year of guitar experience to register for Intermediate Guitar. Please direct any questions to Mrs. Buettner before registering for class.
