FRONT LINE JAZZ BAND AUDITIONS

The Front Line Jazz Band is a new experience for our more mature instrumental musicians. We will meet on Thursdays at Belfry from 3:00-4:00. Due to the requirements of the music we will be learning in a limited amount of time, students need to have a strong sense of rhythm, a capable range and technique, and a commitment to practice outside of our rehearsal time.

Below is the required audition music for all instruments. Two etudes are required:

"The Duck Walk" (Beginning through the downbeat of m. 9)

"Motor Stiw" (Beginning through m.10)

Links to the music are below.

You may play the etudes unaccompanied, but my preference is to have you play with the tracks at the given tempo (for audio tracks: be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, where it says "Demonstration Tracks")

Use the full tracks to learn your part, but for auditions, use the appropriate accompaniment tracks.

For instance: saxes, trumpets, trombones, piano, vibes, bass, guitar would audition using the "No Horns" version.

Drum set would audition using the "No Drums" version.

With the exception of Drum Set, all students will also be asked to play the following:

Concert Bb Blues scale (one octave), MEMORIZED

Concert Eb Blues scale (one octave), MEMORIZED

Sight reading

*Drum Set will need to demonstrate at least 16 bars with at least one fill of: Basic Rock Beat, Swing Beat, and a Latin Beat
